Knit poncho: what do you need?
Here we show you how to knit a nice poncho made of cotton blended yarn yourself. But since it is rather unsuitable for the coolest winter days, you could also make the poncho from soft gingham merino yarn. You need the following materials:
- 500g cotton-polyacrylic mixed yarn / merino yarn
- Knitting needles (strength 5)
- darning needle
- crochet hook
Actually, the easiest way to knit is with a circular needle. Before you begin, however, you should take the exact body size – your own or the person for whom the poncho is, so that in the end it does not become too big or too small. To do this, measure the length from the shoulder to the wrist, and then measure the distance between the one shoulder and the opposite hand center. If you are about 165 cm high, the poncho should be about 85 cm long and 60 cm wide. To be sure that the dimensions are correct, you could also create a template in the size of your poncho from an old sheet.
Knit poncho itself – instructions
A very important step that you should not miss is to knit a stitch. Our poncho will consist of two parts and for that we have struck 112 stitches. You should do the stitching test to see if your knitting technique fits this bill. Take the wool from which you want to knit your poncho, you hit more stitches to, are as specified, and work more than 10cm in height. Then measure from the center of the swatch out 10cm in width and in height, and count the stitches in a row. Multiply this number to start at the end with the width in centimeters, and divide Now you can knit with it by 10!
Poncho ladies – modern ideas
Hit the calculated number of stitches on a circular embroidery needle and knit the first row. The poncho is knit in the plain-right pattern – meaning you should knit every row to the right and the back row to the left. The edge stitches are also knitted on the right so that the edge does not curl. Apply the embroidery by lifting the first stitch and placing it on the right needle. The last stitch in the back row is not knitted, but lifted off to the left. After turning, you should knit this as a right-hand stitch by piercing the needle at the back. Knitt the two 85 cm long rectangles this way. Then start off the stitching: knit two right stitches and lift the first under the second until you come to the last stitch; just pull the thread through it and you’re done!
Knit poncho itself – helpful tips
Before sewing the two pieces together, tie all threads together. Place the two rectangles on the floor or on the table in an L-shape and sew the joint together first, then the shorter to the longer side to get a round poncho with neckline. And done!
