Masonry showers are particularly popular and widespread in the Mediterranean countries. They differ from conventional showers in that they are sturdier, longer lasting, and also provide adequate privacy. Mostly they are made of aerated concrete blocks and then provided with acrylic attachment, tiles or waterproof plaster. When it comes to the design, the possible variants are enormous and almost everything depends on your personal wishes and needs – the design of the shower, the shape and access to the cabin, etc.

A stone-walled walk-in shower is perhaps the most common option and it’s no coincidence – not only is it barrier-free, it’s also much faster and easier to clean. The floor can also be bricked, but there must be a slight slope in the direction of the drain to avoid flooding. If you have opted for a masonry shower with no door, the shower cubicle should be laid out long enough to prevent the splash of water from showering from reaching the bathroom. However, if you find the shower “open door” rather uncomfortable, there are shower doors made of different materials, and you should only find the model that suits your personal preferences. Particularly chic and modern see the shower door made of transparent, colored glass or plastic.

The walled-in shower cubicle can be square, round or snail-shaped. As the name suggests, the helical shower cubicle has a spiral shape that allows elegant access without the need for a door. Their most important advantage is that the spray water stays within the shower area. However, a “snail shower” needs much more space than the conventional models, so this variant simply does not fit in dressing baths. It is also not a cheap affair – the cost can reach up to 1500 euros. In this context, the cost of a brick shower depends mainly on the material used – the aerated concrete blocks with a price of about 2 euros each (at a thickness of about 10 centimeters) are the cheapest solution. Glass blocks, glass doors and other extra equipment can significantly increase costs.

A brick shower can add an individual touch to any bathroom, but that’s not their only benefit – as stated above, it’s far more durable and stable than the traditional variants. These useful properties are due to the high strength of the aerated concrete blocks. And their light and versatile workmanship allows the walls of the shower to be constructed in different shapes – whether straight or curved, depending only on your personal preference and the size of the bathroom. Furthermore, niches and protrusions can be easily installed in the wall. And with colorful mosaic or glass blocks, you can set original accents in your bathroom and create a truly modern atmosphere.

However, masonry showers also have some disadvantages, which you should take into consideration, if you have already decided on this variant. For example, when the shower is completely bricked, there is often insufficient light in the shower stall. However, the ceiling lighting can solve this problem completely. What you should know is that the aerated concrete blocks absorb moisture more easily than they release it. That’s why you need a special water- and moisture-repellent coating, but the tiles are also a good solution in most cases. Finally, it can be said that the negative sides of a brick shower are much less than their benefits, which should not be underestimated.
