fimo manual soft

First and foremost, Fimo must be pressed softly, because only then can it be processed well. There are basically two types of polymer clay – Fimo Soft and Fimo Classic. Fimo Soft is usually very soft, except when it is old, or – rock hard. Fimo Classic is harder but softens as you press and knead. If you have problems with it at the beginning, you can of course also warm up Fimo. But it is recommended not to do this in the microwave or in the stove, because then Fimo will bake and not soften. Another possibility is to let Fimo on the heater in winter, as long as the heating is not on the highest level. Next you need a polymer clay mix Quick. You can use a plasticizer for PVC. It is easy to mix with the polymer clay. But handle it carefully and sparingly – mixing in a bit is quite enough. Another option for the mix is also sewing machine oil. Then it is best to finely grate the polymer clay in a freezer bag. Add a few drops of oil and leave to soak overnight. Then press again and knead well. So, we are partly finished with our Fimo instructions.

Step 2 – Baking fimo instruction easy

Of course Fimo must be baked in the oven after the preparation. 30 minutes at 130 degrees are good enough. But do not ignore the ventilation and regulate the temperature in time. From 150 ° C, the polymer can already burn, i. it turns brown and no longer usable. From 180 ° C even toxic fumes can be produced.

Step 3 – Cool down

If baking has gone smoothly, you can let the polymer cool down. A tip – throw it in cold water. No worries – nothing happens to the polymer clay inside. But it has an advantage when working with transparency – it becomes more transparent. And maybe the colors will look better when cooling down.

After cooling, it’s about decorating the Fimo works. You are welcome to paint or polish the works. In this way, your works get a beautiful glow. In any case, it is mandatory that you grind the work. You may be able to refrain from sanding if the corners are quite small to be processed and then simply paint. Wet sandpaper is good for sanding. Because that partly prevents you from inhaling the fime dust and that the dust settles in the fine grooves and pores of the fimo plant. Hold the movement in one hand and the sandpaper in the other hand. In between, immerse the work and the sandpaper in the water again and again. After that you can varnish or polish. When painting, you must not forget the fact that the paint should be water-based. Finally, let the artwork dry and that’s all. Polishing is nicer, but takes much more time. For this purpose, you must take a polyester cloth or a piece of denim and polish the work.
