Build wall shelf yourself: DIY instructions
Step 1: Assemble the body
The first step of building the shelf is to assemble the body. That’s why it’s so important that you’ve made the right choice of what shelf to build – square, box, hanging wooden boards, etc. If you have not bought the boards finished, you should prepare them. After cutting and grinding follows the construction manual. First, the eight 6cm wide wooden strips are processed at feet. For this purpose, two strips are each created at right angles to each other, glued together and additionally secured with screws. Subsequently, two of the feet are connected to each other. This is done using the 30cm long strips. These strips, which at the same time also provide the bearing surfaces for the shelves, are screwed between the two feet and end in each case in the corners of the rectangular construction. The strips are mounted in the heights in which the shelves are to be located.
Step 2: Set up the shelf
If you have screwed the entire body with the fixed shelves, you can set up the shelf. Use a spirit level to set up and level out any bumps.
Then the wooden boards are bolted firmly to the wall. The same thing you do with other boards.
Once the sides of the shelf have been assembled, only the shelves need to be inserted. For this purpose, the four 80cm wide wooden boards are placed on the horizontal bars and screwed tight. So the shelf is already finished! Get other creative DIY ideas from our image gallery. You will be convinced how versatile you can build and use a shelf yourself! Have fun building!
