The metal railings are very modern and durable. Combined with glass plates they have a very light and minimalist appearance. Of course, you can not drill or build the metal yourself, but manufacturers offer prefabricated stainless steel kits that you can easily assemble yourself. The price of the stainless steel railings varies between 70 and 150 EUR per meter. More expensive than building with wooden boards, but if you mount them yourself, it is also cheaper. Even easier and faster is with a wall handrail. So you only need one piece of stainless steel for handrail. And the assembly takes less than an hour. Watch the video tutorial how it works:
Build banisters yourself – The instructions
The first important step before you start building is to plan the stair railings properly. Railings mean safety, so they must comply with all legal requirements. For buildings with a maximum of two residential units and a staircase height of up to 12 meters, you should equip the stair railing with some dimensions. When it comes to wood the inner handrail must be 4.5 to 6 cm long, filling bars distance at most 18 cm, in children no more than 12 cm and railing height – 90 cm. When you have finished planning, you can start:
The instruction:
First choose the type of wood and the appropriate length, according to the requirements written above. We recommend beech or oak. When everything is bought, you should cut and grind if necessary. The first step of building are the pillars as they offer safety.
The posts
At posts of the railing there are also requirements. For stability reasons, they need not be more than 2 meters apart. Use metal to attach the posts to the stairs as shown in the picture. With wood screws you should screw the posts.
Mount 2 more wooden boards in X for more security
These two boards are mainly for safety and stability, but they also look beautiful and form the overall picture of the staircase. They prevent the small children from slipping. It would be even nicer if you choose a different kind of wood or paint in a different color.
